But in this guide, I am going to walk you through my process of writing, publishing and producing my first book ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Simplified step-by-step process).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019ll be fired up to take the dust off your dreams of writing, publishing, producing and promoting your book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s a DIY process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do it yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the best part?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before I go any further into my simplified book making process, let me quickly outline the steps I used in knocking off my first book ever:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Before we dive right in, let’s take a little\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    INTRODUCTION<\/strong><\/p>
    \n\n\n\n

    WHY DO YOU WANT TO WRITE A BOOK?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Now permit me to start with this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The deepest part of my being seeks expression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    WHAAAAATZ DAT?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Okay:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In simple terms, I feel have a responsibility to fulfill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    And like Robert Kiyosaki once put it: it\u2019s more of a spiritual thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    An inner longing that just tells you are responsible for certain thing(s).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Kiyosaki termed such philosophy as spiritual money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    And what’s this?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    It\u2019s a sense of responsibility you feel and know when something wholly depends on you (and you alone).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    That nobody else would do that particular thing except you…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    NO OTHER PERSON ON EARTH!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    AND HEY!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    That\u2019s a huge responsibility right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Seemingly abstract.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    But real: in every sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Only you can feel and touch it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    So how would it feel if the whole world is in earnest expectation of what you have to offer or a responsibility placed on you and you\u2019re not yet fulfilling it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Did I just say \u2018YET?\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You\u2019re not even started at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    How do you think they will feel especially when you keep postponing it every time?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    That\u2019s the way I want you to feel right now because you owe the world something.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    And you know what?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I don\u2019t know about you right now, but I get haunted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (Not by witches and wizards from my hometown O)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If I don\u2019t do what I know I ought to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You know that feeling: like Ojuju<\/em> (masquerade) is pursuing me in the dream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    To me:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n

    It\u2019s more of an abstract assignment I just need to do.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

    There is an inner longing to do this work and I feel a sense of responsibility that I am the very person to do it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    No one else in the whole wide world (www).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In my particular case:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Writing a book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (What’s yours?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    And you know what?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If I don\u2019t do it, peace seems to elude me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n

    Like I said earlier, it\u2019s more of a spiritual assignment.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

    Now let\u2019s get down to brass tack:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    WHY WRITE A BOOK ON WEB DESIGN?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Okay, let me start this way:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Already I had read a blog post from one of my very respected online mentors, Nathan Barry<\/a>, about one \u201cAuthority Book.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    It was a book that encouraged professionals to write and produce books, resources and professional materials of high quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The key thing\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \u2026ensure content is highly relevant, valuable to their target audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (More specifically: To your audience).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    And not only that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The book also taught how you could profit from your work as a professional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I felt it was no ordinary book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    WHY?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    It was a proven, powerful system put in place to help folks in and out the literary world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    SEE:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n

    Your association inspires your work.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

    Just to mention, I have also gotten great inspiration reading books by great minds – one of which is titled: “Small Money, Big Business.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I was very inspired and motivated to do something with the knowledge I had gathered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    SO:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    My excitement, inspiration motivated me to take action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (Not allowing analysis-paralysis to kill me).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I HAD A LOT OF BOOK TITLES<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Before this period, I had quite a handful of book titles I planned to write.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    GREAT TITLES!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (Some of them I had written beautiful brief introduction on).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    But GUESS WHAT?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    They only remained titles (+ their brief introduction).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Nothing more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (And I kept tweaking them once in a while.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    And even romancing them?.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    None of them titles saw the light of day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    NONE (in caps).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Despite all my romance\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \u2026all nah wash\u2026MTCHEEEEEW!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    But something struck me after reading the blog post I mentioned earlier\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I TOLD MYSELF:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You can do this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I felt a strong urge that I could do this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    More than the urge and feeling, I wanted to write (start and finish) \u2013 hold myself accountable, responsible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    More than the title and brief introduction I had been doing all my years past, I REALLY NEEDED TO DO THIS AND FINISH IT!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Already, I had some small success in my kitty with blog posts I had been writing consistently (starting and finishing)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    It was time to scale up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    So, I told myself:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \u201cSylvanus, if you can start and finish these small worded blog posts (usually within 499 to 999 words); nothing stops you from starting and finishing your book.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Fear struck\u2026timidity was setting in\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    But..<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I STARTED JOURNEY ANYWAYS.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    STARTING WAS THE BIG DEAL!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Continuing, I gained momentum and motivation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    GOOD NEWS?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I was able to finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    START TO FINISH.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    That was a big deal for me o!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    A huge milestone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    REAL BIG DEAL <\/strong>(Ofcourse reason not farfetched).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    IT WAS SUCCESS FOR ME<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (IN BLACK AND WHITE!)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    WRITING INSPIRATION AND PRACTISE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I started out writing very few words in 30 minutes \u2013under 500 words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (Boy! You can\u2019t imagine what you can achieve if you timed yourself)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    SMALL THINGS, BIG RESULTS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I started forming a habit of writing regularly (though timed) about anything that came to mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Gradually, I built the habit of writing regularly such that if I don\u2019t, I felt something was wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (Intuition)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    So\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    That’s that\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Let\u2019s get into the heart of things\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    STEP 1:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    CONCEPT OF BOOK<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    My first book ever:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (At least that I started and finished)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Professional Website Design Handbook: The CorelDraw Approach<\/strong> was conceptualized on the basis of getting an in-depth knowledge based on using CorelDraw for Web Design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    At the time, I searched online for resources that could help one in building a website using CorelDraw but found nothing really meaningful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    No resource as at the time really took the approach in-depth as I desired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    So\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I decided to make one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The concept of the book would be premised on the capacity of CorelDraw to create unique-looking websites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If you know me:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I hated using templates, themes or frameworks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (If I am forced, I try to customize as much as I can to suit my unique needs and objectives).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Another conviction I have about CorelDraw is that it is very flexible and fast in churning out unique designs that meets goals and objectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    SIMPLIFIED, INTERACTIVE AND FUN TO READ<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Unlike most technical-related books, I wanted my web design book to be as simple as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (Even when there were a lot of technicalities to contend with)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    More than simplicity, I also wanted it to be fun to read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    So\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I also added stories about my personal experiences in the design space since 1997.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Adding videos and actionable points to the mix would help achieve interactivity\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \u2026and help readers easily understand technical concepts in the book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This takes us to the approach I adopted for the book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Let’s dive\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    STEP 2:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    APPROACH TO WRITING BOOK<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    My approach to writing would mix fun, creativity and simplicity in explaining technical concepts with the most simple and relatable language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (Even the lay man would find it easy to understand).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In my plan also, I would be adding videos (in DVD, ONLINE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    These videos would show the simplified step-by-step practicals of the task involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    ADDING SLIDESHOWS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In the DVD also, I planned on further simplifying technical concepts using PowerPoint slides shot as videos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    JUST UNDERSTAND SHA!!!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    My bottom-line?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    For example, I explained why you need to use Google products to get more SEO juice to your digital marketing campaign….<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Just understand \u2013don\u2019t cram anything (LOL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (Like I always advise my kids: \u201cDon’t cram, seek to understand\u201d)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I have always been a proponent of people understanding the way stuff works rather than jamming their brains with complexities\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (Any word like that?? permit am)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    When you understand, application becomes natural and seamless \u2013you have more revelation on how to apply such concepts you\u2019re learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This leads us to the next step\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    STEP 3:<\/strong><\/p>
    \n\n\n\n

    BOOK WRITING, PLANNING<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    It all starts with writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    SEE:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The other day, I was with my sister, Chief (Rev) Mrs. Maria Ojedayo, the Yeye Bobagunwa herself (Oye amori o).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I was trying to shoot a freestyle explainer video for my web design book<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    After several failed attempts, she advised I put pen to paper and write a detailed script.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (Expo I could read from?).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Always keeping an open context, I saw great sense in this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (At least to avoid all the emmms and ummms in the video)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    So\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I got down with writing an explainer video for the book and DVD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I decided that whatever I\u2019m going to do, must first start with a well thought idea on paper in writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    My brother, Mark also toes this line: He believes he always needs to put his thoughts together first on paper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Videos, interviews, presentations, infographics, graphs, tables etc. must all stem from a clearly thought out write up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    IN WRITING BOOK<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I had a clear idea of when I wanted to launch the book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (Putting myself under big pressure).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Though I had been putting up some things before now, a date would make a whole world of difference:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    To keep me on edge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    So\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What did I do?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    I set up a landing s<\/a>ales page<\/a> for my book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (Designed, developed from scratch by my humble self).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
