A Breath-taking Profile of a Digital Media Specialist

Dr Anderson Uvie-Emegbo, MBChB, ITBMC
Dr-Anderson-Uvie-Emegbo-ProDr. Anderson is a leading African digital and social economy specialist, thought leader, multimedia content producer, writer, innovation architect, social techpreneur, educator, and certified information technology business manager with over 16 years’ experience in the digital space.

He is an International Faculty on Digital Media at Strathmore Business School, Kenya and an Adjunct Faculty, Digital Media at the School of Media and Communication, Pan Atlantic University, Nigeria.  At the Lagos Business School, he is a Resource Specialist leading sessions in Digital and Social Business, Service Marketing and Customer Relationship Management. He is also a Resource Specialist at the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON).  He is also on the faculty of the Chicago Institute of Business.

His case studies on digital media have been used in Nigeria and Kenya with critical acclaim. These include case studies on Vanguard Newspapers, the defunct Next Newspapers, Capital FM, Kenya and First Bank of Nigeria. He has also done some work on digital leadership with the Kenyan ICT Board.

Since August 2013, Dr Anderson has been a consultant and trainer to the Independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria (INEC) on Citizen Engagement using Social Media as the organization prepares for the 2015 General Elections.

He is a frequent keynote speaker and agenda setting panelist in digital, social business, sales leadership, service excellence and innovation related conferences and sessions across Africa. He was a member of the Advisory Board of Social Media Week Lagos 2013 and the 2014 Summit on “Functional Social Networking for Journalists“.  He is one of a select global group of contributors/commentators for Carte Blanche’s dedicated channel – the Oscar Pistorius Channel on MNET. In May 2014, he will deliver a keynote address on “Integrated Education – Business Schools in the Digital Age” for the Association of African Business Schools’ (AABS) Africa Connect Conference 2014 in Nairobi, Kenya

As part of the implementation of the recently approved Nigeria Broadband plan, in March 2014, he will be honoured by the Nigerian Government under the Connected Nigerians initiative as one of ten top worthy and influential online businesses and entrepreneurs who have been able to achieve amazing success on the web. He has been asked to share his success story.

Apart from his open seminars on Digital and Social Media, he has conducted in house Digital and Social Media trainings for the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Vodacom Business Nigeria, Vanguard Newspapers, Total Nigeria, Heirs Holdings, First Bank of Nigeria, Punch Nigeria, Skye Bank, Slot Systems and the leadership of Ekiti State.

Anderson runs Dymore Vision Consulting, a niche Pan African focused digital business management consulting firm currently operating in Nigeria and Kenya. He has extensive consulting experience designing and leading ground-breaking, award winning, end to end digital/social media and service leadership initiatives for governments, leading brands and SMEs in a wide range of industries in Africa.  He’s co-developed a branchless banking model; undertaken successful organizational wide digital transformation programmes; developed and implemented innovative integrated service management systems; led workforce optimization programmes and integrated impactful and pragmatic multimedia learning solutions in large multicultural organizations and SMEs.

He has helped drive digital sales leading to revenues of over 3 Million dollars each in at least 2 leading multinationals in Africa. Some of the clients he has consulted for in Nigeria include First Bank of Nigeria, Government of Ekiti State, Heirs Holdings, Slot Systems, the Lagos Business School, Mobitel Nigeria and Total Nigeria.  In Kenya, he has consulted for Chase Bank, Transnational Bank, UAP Insurance, AutoXpress Kenya, Strathmore Business School, Standard Media Group, Riara University and Sarova Stanley Hotel.

He was the pioneer Group Web Strategist and pioneer Head, Web Management and E-Media for the United Bank for Africa Group where the web transformation programme he led was nominated as a top 3 project at the annual UBA Group CEO Awards. During his time, UBA was the first corporate organization in Nigeria to formally embrace and institutionalize social media as part of its corporate strategy.

In a peer review exercise in 2013, his work as the Head of the Digital Media Transformation Programme of the Ekiti State Government, Nigeria was adjudged by the Nigeria’s Governors Forum as the best in Nigeria.

During his time as the Consultant Head of Digital Media for First Bank of Nigeria, the bank successfully developed and implemented a youthful digital business strategy which culminated in the bank becoming a top 2 digital brand among financial institutions in Nigeria. He also had a brief stint at Phillips Consulting as its pioneer Recruitment Portal Manager.

Committed to bridging the gaps in learning within Africa, Dr. Uvie-Emegbo is the founder and director of learning at GAPS Academy (www.gapsacademy.com), an integrated multimedia social learning technology platform. This earned him recognition by the Qatar based World Innovation Summit on Education as “a leading education stakeholder” and also is on the honorary list of invitees for each year’s summit. The GAPS Academy You Tube Channel has been viewed over 230,000 times as at March 5th 2014.

Dr Anderson is actively involved in training, coaching and mentoring a wide range of marketing, sales and digital specialists in East and West Africa. He is a resident expert and business coach to a number of leading NGOs focused on helping small businesses.

He is the co-convener of the Dare2Dream Series; a business leadership, mentoring and empowerment programme for young Africans that had its inaugural session in Nairobi in August 2013.

An alumnus of the Lagos Business School, Dr. Anderson studied medicine and surgery at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria. He practised medicine in Nigeria for 3.5 years.  In June 2014, he will become an alumnus of International Faculty Programme of the IESE Business School, Barcelona.
